Watch Out Vera Wang, There’s a New Kid in Town…

Since I now have a big rock on the ring finger of my left hand, I think it’s time I start some wedding planning. One thing I’m looking forward to most is finding my perfect wedding dress. What will be my first bridal shop stop? Certainly not Vera Wang. I’m going to Disney World! According to Luxist, Disney will soon be releasing a new line of princess-inspired wedding dresses for all you brides-to-be.

According to The Orlando Sentinel, Disney has “developed a line of ethereal gowns that pay homage to Cinderella, Jasmine, Snow White, Ariel and Sleeping Beauty.”

This is fantastic news, given that I’ve always dreamed of (gulp) looking like this on my wedding day:

But the more I think about it, the more I realize my hour-glass figure and long hair lends itself well to this pants-and-a-bikini-top style:

Or maybe I’ll just reserve these Disney-inspired dresses for my bridesmaids…you gals won’t mind, right?

Tyra Tells It Like It Is

So Reuters is reporting that four out of every five consumers believe that female fashion models and celebrities are “too thin.” Uhhhh, DUH. The article goes on to say:

“As a result of the death of two Latin American models, czars from the powerful fashion capitals of New York, London, Milan and Paris pledged last week to address the controversial issue of bringing more weight to the catwalks.”

My question is: who are these so-called “fashion czars” and how are they going to address this issue? By throwing Snickers at every model who struts herself down the runway? Listen, I’m completely behind the fashion industry redefining what America currently believes is beautiful (ie: NOT skin and bone body types like Nicole Richie, but healthy, strong bodies that are feminine and sexy). But what’s really being done about it? Who’s going to have the guts to actually stand up and change things?

Tyra Banks, that’s who. On a recent beach vacay, she was photographed by the Stalkarazzi wearing a rather unflattering swimsuit. Twenty-four hours later, celebrity bloggers and tabloids were declaring her a “fat ass,” publishing stories with headlines reading”Thigh-ra Banks,” “America’s Next Top Waddle” and “Tyra Porkchops.”

In retaliation, the courageous Tyra used her talkshow today to talk back to her critics. She re-donned the swimsuit that caused the fat attacks in the first place… arguing that her tabloid-reported fifty pound weight gain was, in fact, poor camera angles. Tyra’s doing her part to reshape the fashion world by showcasing aspiring models on her show, “America’s Next Top Model” who are 15 to 20 pounds heavier than the average model in the industry. AMEN! And coming soon, you’ll even see her on the cover of People magazine alongside a headline reading, “You Call This Fat?”

To sum things up on her show today, Tyra turned to the camera, pointed to all of her critics and shouted, “I have one thing to say to you: kiss my fat ass!” You go girl! Tell it like it is!
